116. Satan has no hold.

"The prince of the world has no hold on me, but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me."(John 14:30-31) If there be one man over whom Satan had no hold, it is Jesus, the second Adam, not because he was the son of God but because he had nothing of the world in him. ( The first Adam too was the son of God but the world entered him through the lust of his eyes for the fruit of the forbidden tree and fell - Genesis 3:6, Romans 5:12) 'For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father but is from the world.'(1 John 2:16) But many of us are worldy Christians because of the world in us and therefore the enemy has got a foothold. 'Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly - mere infants in Christ... You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not worldly?'(1 Corinthians 3:1-3) So if there are divisions among us, then the enemy has got a foothold. We ought to reconcile as soon as possible to drive the enemy out. How soon? 'Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry and do not give the devil a foothold.'(Ephesians 4:26-27) Nothing of the devil could hold back Jesus, not even death because Hades could not unlawfully detain him as he himself was found without sin, though he had carried the sins of the world. 'But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.'( Acts 2:24) 'Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death - that is, the devil - and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death.'( Hebrews 2:14-15) Jesus was unstoppable, so are we who live according to the Spirit and not according to the sinful nature. 'You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God loves in you ... And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.'(Romans 8:9-11) Hallelujah! Hope all of us understand the relevance of receiving the Holy Spirit because without him, no one will partake of the first resurrection 'Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation- but it is not the sinful nature to live according to it ... but if by the Spirit we put to death the misdeeds of the body, we will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.'(vs 12-14) Amen.
