83. Faithfulness of God.

'Your love, O Lord reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.' (Psalm 36:5) The psalmist couldn't find anything on earth to measure God's faithfulness with that he uses astronomical (an amount extremely large) measures! But to make Israel understand in human terms, his faithfulness to them, God asked the Prophet Hoshea to marry a whore, to dramatize his faithfulness and Israel's unfaithfulness. (Hoshea 1:2) However, she didn't change her behaviour but went after her many lovers, yet Hoshea wouldn't divorce her, just as the Lord wouldn't divorce the nation of Israel, inspite of their unfaithfulness. That is why the Lord hates divorce - (Malachi 2:16) and doesn't approve of it - (Mark 10:5-9) though Moses permitted them to divorce because of the hardness of their hearts, but he wouldn't, neither should his people! 'The Lord said to me, "Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods..."' (Hoshea 3:1) Why does God remain faithful inspite of our unfaithfulness? 'Here is a trustworthy saying: ... If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.' (2 Timothy 2:13) His faithfulness is not conditional but is irrespective of our faith. 'What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness? Not at all!' (Romans 3:3) 'The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving towards all he has made.' (Psalm 145:13) Amen.
