There ain't nothing strange about love failing in any other relationships but it would be strange if that is said about a mother for her child! "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!"(Isaiah 49:15) Just as it is contrary to a mother's nature to forget her children, it's contrary to God's nature to forget his children. 'If we are faithless, he will remain faithful for he cannot disown himself.'( 2 Timothy 2:13) If that be not enough, he has gone to the extent of cutting a covenant with us, that we might have the certainty of his unfailing love. '"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace removed", says the Lord, who has compassion on you.' (Isaiah 54:10) God wants us to be assured of his love, no matter what happens! 'Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or sword? ... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.' (Romans 8:35-37) Amen.
