"Unless I wash you, you have no part with me." (John 13:8) Having loved his own who were in the world, Jesus showed them the full extent of his love but Peter tried to stop him from washing his feet. However, Jesus insisted in doing it, saying, "You do not realise now what I am doing, but later you will understand." Peter went on to understand what it means to be thoroughly cleansed. Once, looking at Simon the sorcerer, who had offered him money for the ability to impart the Spirit as he did, Peter said: "You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God ... For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin", though baptized in water! ( Acts 8:13, 21-23) Unless we are washed by Christ, it doesn't make a difference whether we are baptized in water by men. So don't stop Jesus from washing us today. 'Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her, to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.' (Ephesians 5:25-27) Amen
