This title was not accorded to Jesus by men but its a title from the book of Daniel, that he took for himself at the start of his ministry. (John 1:51) Prophet Daniel in his vision of the future, saw *'one like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence He was given authority, Glory, and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshipped him ... his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.'* ( Daniel 7:13-14) The *"one like the Son of man",* whom Daniel saw in his vision turned out to be Jesus, as Apostle John also saw *"one like the Son of Man"* in his vision at Patmos. *'I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me ... and among the lampstands was someone "like a Son of Man" ...'* - (Revelation:1:12-13) Why did Jesus call himself the *"Son of Man"?* Having been born of the seed of God, Jesus is rightly called the *'Son of God',* but then it is also right to call him the *'Son of man',* being born of the seed of a woman as well ! In other words, he is totally God and totally man at the same time!
But why did Jesus have to become the *"Son of Man"?* *'He had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.'* (Hebrews 2:17) Being fully human, he is able to sympathize with our weakness. *'For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are - yet without sin.'* ( Hebrews 4:15) He, therefore, understands our *'struggle against sin'* ( Hebrews 12:4) and is able to help us overcome temptation *'because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.'* - (Hebrews 2:18) The prophet Isaiah called him *'a man of sorrows , and familiar with suffering'* ( Isaiah 53:3) because he was not unfamiliar with the woes of men being a *"Son of Man"!* He now represents us before God and makes intercession for us. *'Christ Jesus, who died - more than that , who was raised to life - is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.'* - (Romans 8:34)
Moreover, God has appointed the *"Son of Man"* to judge the world! *"The Father judges no one , but has entrusted all judgement to the Son"* - (John 5:22) and *"he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the MAN HE HAS APPOINTED. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."* - (Acts 17:31) The *"Son of Man"* is now seated at the right hand of God as a man in his glorified body or in other words, he is a *"Man among Gods",* meaning, the Trinity! As Stephen was being stoned, he looked up and saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. *"Look" he said, "I see heaven open and the 'Son of Man' standing at the right hand of God ".* - ( Acts 7:56) But the time is drawing near for the Son of Man to come and take his seat to judge the nations of the earth. *'They will see the "Son of Man" coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great Glory.'* - (Matthew 24:30) And *'when the "Son of Man" comes in his glory and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.'* - (Matthew 25:31-33) Get right with Him to be on his right! Amen.
