286. Incomparable power of the kingdom.

We are familiar with the phrase *"balance of powers"* ( the idea that nations must strive towards an equal distribution of power to avoid dominance by one). This "balance of power" is considered an essential in international politics because it acts as a deterrent against unilateral aggression. Therefore, the military power of rival nations are compared to see if there is any imbalance in the equation. To maintain this balance of military power, nations align themselves with other allied nations on either side of the equation. This state of equilibrium is what they call international "peace" in a bipolar world. Some religions too believe this balance of powers between good and evil is essential to maintain harmony in this world. For instance, Taoism teaches a philosophical concept called *"yinyang",* which describes the two opposite but interconnected forces that make up all aspects and phenomena of life. They believe that the balance of yin and yang influences health and order within an individual, society, and the entire universe. Even Buddhism and Hinduism teaches a similar concept about the eternal existence of good and evil. But the Bible teaches otherwise and points out the great imbalance between the power of God and Satan, which will finally result in the total annihilation of the kingdom of darkness ( *yin* represents earth, darkness etc ) by the kingdom of light ( *yang* represents light, heavens etc ). Therefore Scripture says: *'Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations.'* ( Psalm 145:13) The Kingdom of God is incomparably powerful and unstoppable! This truth was asserted by Jesus in his words: *"I will build my Church and the gates of Hades will not overcome it* (or will not prove stronger than it)" - Matthew 16:18. Inspite of the fierce opposition, *'the Kingdom of God has been forcefully advancing from the days of John the Baptist until now and forceful men lay hold of it '* ( Matthew 11:12)

Nebuchadnezzar saw in his vision *'a Rock was cut out but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet and smashed them ... the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth.'* Daniel interpreted the dream saying, *"The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed ... It will crush all the kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever... The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future."* ( Daniel 2:34-45) John, in his vision, while at Patmos, saw that when the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, there were loud voices in heaven, which said, *"The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ and he will reign for ever and ever."*(Revelation 11:15) But before the end, *'He* (Christ) *must reign* ( for a thousand years) *until he has put all his enemies under his feet. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominions, authority and power.'* ( 1 Corinthians 15:24-28)

Whose side are we on? There is no middle ground or a buffer zone in this war between good and evil. *We are either on God's side by choice or on the devil's side by default.* We choose to be on the Lord's side by believing the gospel or on the devil's side by disbelieving it. Many will reject God even after seeing the rule of Christ. *'When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and he will go out to deceive the nations ... to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of burning sulphur...'* ( Revelation 20:7- 10) There is no *"balance of powers"* in the spiritual world! The devil is fighting a battle that he cannot win! But he deceives people to think he is winning. In the Marvel film *Avengers: Endgame,* all the Avengers are shown teaming up to fight *"Thanos",* portrayed as the creator who has the power to destroy the entire universe and manages to destroys him forever. How the devil is subtly programming the minds of humans for the great battle of Gog-Magog! He believes that he can defeat God with sheer numbers ! But God doesn't need not score a victory against the devil as he is unrivalled Lord of the universe. Rather he is interested in crushing the devil under the feet of the Church, which is his body. *'The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.'* ( Romans 16:20) Amen.
