God's words are the carriers of his power, whether to create or to destroy. *'By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.'* ( Hebrews 11:3) *'By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth ... For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded and it stood firm.'* ( Psalm 33:6,9) Infact, nothing came into existence without speaking the Word. *'In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God... Through him* (the Word) *all things were made; without him* (the Word) *nothing has been made that has been made.'* ( John 1:1-3) Therefore, God and his Word cannot be separated nor will he disown his own words for his Word is what he is. That is why the psalmist wrote: *'You have exalted above all things your name and your word.'* ( Psalm 138:2) Whereas, men will disown their own words whenever they cannot fulfill them. They will deny that they ever said it for fear of being disgraced!
God not only creates by his Word but also destroys the kingdom of darkness by his word. John, in his vision saw a sharp sword that comes out of the mouth of the rider on the white horse, whose name is the *Word of God,* with which he strikes down the nations gathered at Armageddon. They *'were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse ...'* ( Revelation 19:11-15,21) It's terrifying to know that a word from Jesus' mouth can *unravel* (undo) all creation back to nothing because *'the Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word'* ( Hebrews 1:3) Seeing his power over nature at display, the disciples were terrified when Jesus said to the waves, *"Quiet! Be still"* that they asked each other, *"Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him !"* (Mark 4:39-41) He also *'drove out the spirits with A WORD ...'* ( Matthew 8:16) This amazed them that they asked each other, *"What is this? ... He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him!"* ( Mark 1:27)
God even heals us by his word. *'The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.'* ( John 1:14) The Word *'went around ... healing every disease and sickness among the people.'* ( Matthew 4:24) Indeed,
*'He sent forth his word and healed them.'* ( Psalm 107:20) God even gives us newbirth by his word! *'For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God.*( 1 Peter 1:23)
The Word of God penetrates deep into our soul and spirit. *'For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Everything is laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.'* ( Hebrews 4:12-13) It reveals our flaws like a mirror. *'The man who looks intently into the perfect law* (Word of God) *that gives freedom and continues to do this ... he will be blessed in what he does.'* ( James 1:23-25) The Word of God breaks the hardness of our hearts and prepares the ground. *"Is not my word like fire." declares Lord, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock to pieces?"* ( Jeremiah 23:29) Let's not undermine the power in the word of God. That is why it's said, *'All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.'* ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17) Finally, the secret to answered prayer is the Word. *"If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you."* ( John 15:7) Amen.
