*255. POWER IN THE BLOOD.*
We all know the chorus: *"There is power, power, wonder working power, in the blood of the Lamb"* but we probably don't know that there are no Scriptures that refer to the power in the blood of Jesus. Rather it has been *derived* (to base a concept on an extension of another concept), based on our understanding about the purpose of the shed blood of Jesus. The sevenfold purpose of the shed blood are as follows:-
1. It *was* shed for the forgiveness of our sins.
2. It *was* paid as a ransom for our redemption from death and hades.
3. It *was* sprinkled in the Highest heavens (Most Holy Place) for our entry.
4. It *is* for the cleansing of our hearts from sins .
5. It *is* for the peace of our minds.
6. It *is* for the protection of our bodies.
7. It *will be* by the blood that we escape the coming wrath of God. ( For Bible references visit: https://teachingofchrist.wordpress.com/category/biblestudy/ )
The use of the blood and the name of Jesus in spiritual warfare are like the use of a shield and a sword in physical combat. The shield is meant for defence and can withstand the strike of a sword whereas the sword is meant for offence and can strike with lethal force. Or as in modern day warfare, the bulletproof vest can withstand the firing of a gun but has no power in itself to inflict damage whereas a gun can fire with tremendous power but does not serve as a body armour. Similarly, in spiritual warfare, faith in the blood of Jesus serves as our *'shield of faith with which we can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.'* ( Ephesians 6:16) And faith in the name of Jesus serves as the *'sword of the Spirit'* ( vs 17) with which we can strike the enemy. No one can win a battle with just a shield nor can one escape *unscathed* (without suffering any injury, damage, or harm) with just a sword! We require both the shield and the sword to effectively make war in the spiritual realm, just as it is in the physical realm. However, the weapons for spiritual warfare are not of this world. *'For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary we have divine power to demolish strongholds.'* ( 2 Corinthians 10:3-4) Scripture alludes to the *shield of faith* and the *sword of the Spirit* as *'weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left.'*( 2 Corinthians 6:7) They are called weapons of righteousness because they are part of the *armour of God* ( Ephesians 6:13-17). If *'God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood'* ( Romans 3:25), shouldn't we too have faith in the blood of Jesus? Without faith in the blood of Jesus and the name of Jesus, these weapons are powerless against the enemy. It's only as powerful as our faith allows it to be. With great faith we can exhibit great power ! Amen.
