214. Kingdom entry. (Condition 2)

Sam Matthews. K

"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3) What is it about children that we should learn from them ? It is so easy to make them believe anything! However, they can be easily led astray for the same reason that they can be made to believe anything! "If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." (Vs 6) Eternally condemned are those who destroy the workmanship of God in others, that its better for them to die than live because the wrath of God is against them! It took a great effort on the part of Jesus to get someone to believe in him. All his efforts to get the Jews to believe in him were in vain because they wouldn't believe, no matter what he said or did! Sometimes God himself seems helpless in helping men overcome their unbelief! Therefore, Jesus told the Jews, "If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?" ( John 8:46) "Why do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'? Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does. But if I do, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I in the Father." Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.' (John 10:36-39) But Jesus had more success winning the hearts of children than of adults! 'When the chief priests and teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the CHILDREN shouting in the temple area, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant. "Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes", replied Jesus,"have you never read, "'From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise'?" (John 21:15-16) I suppose heaven will be filled with more children than adults and also with those who have a child like faith. We adults who think we are very wise and learned and think that the Gospel is not true, better beware or else we will end up at the wrong place! 'God is pleased through the foolishness of what is preached to save those who believe.' (1 Corinthians 1:21) The only work God requires of us is to believe. When the Jews asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires? Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." (John 6:28-29) So did Paul and Silas tell the Jailer in Philippi: "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved - you and your household." ( Acts 16:31) Give Jesus the joy by believing like little children. 'At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure." ( Luke 10:21) Hallelujah.
