"When he the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth." (John 16:13) Truth is always singular in its constitution and never plural, because there can't be multiple versions of same truth! Whereas falsehood is plural in its constitution and there is no end to its making! Once we realise this singularity of truth and the plurality of falsehood, the quest for the truth begins! In our search for truth, we probably will have to ask questions but whom do we expect to tell us the truth ? The 'Spirit of truth', who is the keeper of the truth through the ages or the devil who is the father of faslehood? Speaking of the devil, Jesus said, "He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of all lies! Yet because I tell you the truth, you do not believe me! ... If I am telling you the truth, why don't you believe me?" (John 8:44-46) In this plural world, truth finds it hard even to survive but falsehood thrives! Nevertheless, the Spirit of truth still speaks, but only 'he who has an ear can hear what the Spirit says'. (Revelation 2:7) Are we able to hear the truth? If not, we do not belong to God. "He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God." (John 8:47) We belong to God only if we have the Spirit of Christ in us for 'if any one does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.' (Romans 8:9) If the Spirit of Christ is in us, he will guide us into 'the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth'. We make men swear by God to speak the truth and if they are found lying, they would be guilty of perjury ( the offence of willfully telling an untruth or making a misrepresentation under oath). We expect God to hold a person accountable for lying under oath yet cannot believe His 'Word is truth'! (John 17:17) That is mockery of God's integrity! 'God is not man that he should lie.' (Numbers 23:19) Where there is no heart for truth, there is no room for his power! If we make room for truth, we can expect the power of God to manifest in us. Where else do we expect the Spirit of truth to show up but where truth is celebrated! The fact that we are able to rejoice with the truth is the evidence of our love for God. 'Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.' ( 1 Corinthians 13:6) If our hearts cannot rejoice on hearing the truth, it means we are not yet able to discern the truth. Let the 'Spirit of truth' to guide us to all truth. Amen.
